TIMS organized an Industrial Visit to Karnataka Soaps & Detergents Limited, Rajajinagar, for MBA students on 20th March 2015. Students along with faculty coordinators visited the sandal fragranced plant and witnessed the prestige and milestones achieved over the years by this Karnataka Governmental undertaking.
Mr Balakrishnan, officer at KSDL, demonstrated and interacted with the students explaining to them the processes by which the brand - Mysore Sandal Soap was manufactured. The visiting team was led into the factory where the different stages of manufacturing, packaging and storage were studied. The students were also shown the structure of the sandal wood tree and given a description of its growth and spread in India. The employees at the plant also interacted with the students and gave them the sample product to hold and see. They were given an account of the various products that KSDL offered. The Rs 720/- Mysore Sandal Millinieum soap and the Rs.3600/- Sandalwood oil and all other products were enthusiastically enquired by the students at the outlet. The officials at the plant were very co-operative and showed great interest to the students as they spent time within the company premises. The company officials explained to them how they work towards achieving the production target by working round the clock and making the firm a profit making enterprise for which they are also receive special bonuses and allowances. They further explained the goodness of the sandalwood soap and how the sandalwood oil and the TFM index make it a premium soap. Students were very enthusiastic and noted down important points during the visit. The students were offered a chance to further approach the firm for educational purposes and internships. Overall it was an excellent experience for the students and they appreciated the sustained efforts taken by the government in the manufacturing sector bringing employment to many and growth to the economy.
